Rice Clay

The development of rice clay is part of the ongoing rice project. Vivian continues to explore her cultural identity and healing.

This is an innovative material invented by her as a meditative practice. She mixes and moulds rice clay from scratch.

Rice clay is a mixture of cooked rice and embroidery floss. She uses it like a normal clay body, except that it is super sticky and messy. After Vivian dehydrates it under the sun naturally, the rice clay becomes stiff and hard. If you hold it against the light, you can see the magical texture of rice clay due to translucency.

Rice paint & rice ice cube

Making print with rice ice cubes in a slow fashion.

It may take as long as 3 days or more to transfer colour from rice cubes onto Japanese Ho-Sho paper.

Rice ice cubs can be put in freezer again and again. After freezing and frosting for several times, the rice cubes become lightweight and have a foam texture.
